Car Insurance Scion (Car Insurance). is it true that any used cars made by chrysler (jeep) are known for breaking down?is it true that any used cars made by chrysler (jeep) are known for breaking down? i want to get a jeep patriot sport (used, 2008) for my first car so that i can fit my surfboard, but my mom says that anything made by chrysler is known to be not very sturdy and cheaply made. true? does this apply to jeep patriot? thank you! yes its true and the jeep patriot is one of the worst ones, If you type 2008 jeep patriot problems, complaints and recalls? in the internet search box and click enter the results page will have pages and pages of complaints from jeep owners. these jeeps are well known for engine , and transmission and electrical problems, and there is a lot of information out there about jeeps already, here is a website that I suggest you check before buying a used car carcomplaints.com already has a number of complaints for engine transmission and other paint and body, fit and finish issues, and tthat'sjust one website. I would spend some time checking carcomplaints, com before looking for a new/used car and here is another website with free information on how to look for used cars, and what to look out for when buying one, there is also a section on used car reviews that can be invaluable. Another very good website to go to is Edmunds.com this has information about new and used cars, pricing information as well as comparison testing and a whole lot of other links. There are only four car manufacturers that I recommend any more, honda, nissan, toyota and subaru as far as the rest of them, the only american cars that hold up well to high mileage are the full size chevrolet and GMC cars and trucks, but only the ones with the 5.3 or the 5.7 and bigger v8 If is difficult sometimes when looking for a used car, to find what amounts to looking for a jewel in a desert of old broken down cars. many people sell old cars, a lot of them are worn out, so the people lie about the condition and hope a sucker buys it. I learned long ago a trick that seemed to work well, I would do a cold start test drive, this is where the car has sat at least overnight and not been driven. I start it up and listen for rattles or bangs and look for large clouds of smoke out the tailpipe, the engine should smooth into a high idle in 5 to 15 seconds, I give it a minute or two for oil circulation then drive it like I stole it. A good used car, will run , drive, and stop and get up to freeway speeds (55miles per hour) in the first 5 to 7 minutes. Some cars, with tired transmissions will not even move cold for the first 5 to 15 minutes, cars like this , people will try to hide by warming them up before you get there (private party ) I ask them the night before not to warm the car up, its easy to check, just open the hood, if its been driven the heat will roll up in your face. I also check the oil in the engine which should be dark, but clear to see through and read the marks on the dipstick, and transmission fluid for the automatic transmissiion which should be a pinkish color and easy to read the marks on the stick through the fluid. I plan on taking at least a 40 minute test ride, and check all the lights the turn signals, the radio the AC power windows up and down all the way several times each, radio, power mirrors , what ever make sure it works and always take a used car to a mechanic if you are sure you want to buy, a good mechanic can do a pretty good evaluation for 100 bucks. and above all have patience, sooner or later you will find some old guy with a nice car. I like cars owned by older adults, they take a lot better care of their vehicles than young kids And older adults have other nice things, and do not drive the pee out of thier vehicles. hey your mom is a WRONG jeep has been around forever i have one that has well over 150000 miles still starts up everyday motor still runs strong never had a single problem with it i would buy the jeep and prove your mom wrong when your still driving it in 10 years and tell her ITS A JEEP THING YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND i have a 2005 dodge sx 2.0, and the only major break down i had was the timing belt that took out 16 valves. but it only went because i didnt oput a new one in at 150,000km i think their descent vehicles Jeep patriots are not good cars they are buggy and have had issues, In the Dodge trucks they have had transmission trouble for years, also in recent years there has been transmission issues with the Jeep wrangler as well. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee has not been too promising so far either there are a few recalls and transmission issues already popping up. I would avoid the jeep and dodge brand trucks right now if I were you. Now their cars are pretty good with the exception of the Dodge neon (not good) it has engine head gasket issues. Hope I helped! I was doing my own research a few months ago for a used car purchase and the Patriot was one of the vehicles I considered. However, after researching on the 'net regarding vehicle troubles, recalls, and complaints, I avoided the Patriot (and its other corporate cousins, the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber). Although I did not drive the Patriot, I sat in one and I found the interior materials and assembly to be sub-par. There are many other much better choices out there on the used car market. Scion . How to Replace Oxygen Sensors on a Toyota 4RunnerModern automobiles use a sophisticated system of sensors that send data to a computer, which adjusts the vehicle's performance based on the data. The oxygen sensor detects the amount of oxygen present in exhaust gases, which the computer uses to adjust the vehicle's fuel/air mixture. This improves the vehicle's performance and reduces the amount of polluting emissions. All Toyota 4Runners manufactured after 1994 have two oxygen sensors. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack stands (4) Wrench Socket set Step by Step : 1 Start the 4Runner and let it warm up for several minutes. The oxygen sensors are located in the exhaust pipe, which contracts when it's cold, making it difficult or impossible to remove the sensors. Once the vehicle is warm, turn off the engine and engage the parking brake. 2 Raise the vehicle with a jack and support it on jack stands. 3 Climb underneath the vehicle and locate the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter is part of the exhaust pipe located towards the front of the vehicle. Follow the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter towards the front of the 4Runner until you see the oxygen sensor protruding from the top side of the pipe. An insulated wire will lead away from the sensor towards the engine. This is the forward oxygen sensor. 4 Follow the insulated wire away from the sensor to the first connection. Use a wrench to turn the connector nut counterclockwise and disconnect the wire. Do not disconnect the wire from the sensor itself. The wire lead is part of the sensor, and the new sensor will come with a new lead installed. 5 Use the wrench or socket to remove the two nuts from the bolts that hold the sensor on the exhaust pipe. Pull the sensor out of the pipe. You will probably need to lightly tap the sensor to loosen it from its port. 6 Insert the new sensor and replace the nuts. Connect the new sensor's wire lead to the wire connector. 7 Locate the aft oxygen sensor by following the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter towards the rear of the truck. The aft sensor is mounted in the same way as the forward sensor. Follow Steps 4 through 6 to replace this sensor. Tips & Warnings Use caution when working around the hot exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.
Scion . How to Replace an Oxygen Sensor in a 1997 Ford TaurusThe 1997 Ford Taurus oxygen sensor threads into the exhaust system just below the catalytic converter. When your car's "Check Engine" indicator is on and your gas mileage has substantially decreased, it means the oxygen sensor has likely failed. Replace the sensor as soon as possible to save needless expense in additional fuel costs. Buy a replacement sensor from an auto-parts retailer and save over the cost of a dealership repair. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Jack Jack stands Oxygen sensor wrench Torque wrench Step by Step : 1 Lift the Taurus with a jack high enough to rest it on a set of jack stands. Disconnect the wiring harness connection from the oxygen sensor. Push in on the retaining clip to separate the wiring harness. 2 Remove the sensor with the oxygen sensor wrench. Coat the threads of the new sensor with anti-seize compound, then thread it into the pipe by hand. 3 Tighten the sensor to 30 foot-pounds with a torque wrench. Push the electrical connector together until it clicks. 4 Raise the car off the jack stands, then remove them. Lower the car to the ground. If you neglect to do so, you run the risk of draining all the fluid out of the master cylinder and drawing air into the lines from the top. Now, that isn't fatal — it simply means that you have to go back and bleed your master cylinder until you suck the air out of that end of the system — but who needs the extra work? If you goof and have to bleed the master cylinder, it's the same deal as bleeding your brakes (friend and all). Just bleed it at the point where the brake lines attach to the cylinder, or at the master cylinder bleeder nozzle, if you have one (see Figure 18-16). 10. Repeat these steps with each brake until the air is out of each brake line, remembering to add brake fluid to the master cylinder after you bleed each brake. 11. Scion . The brake pedal should no longer feel spongy when you depress it. If it does, check the master cylinder again to be sure that it's full and try bleeding the brakes one more time (this situation isn't unusual, and it doesn't take as long as it sounds). If you know that no air is left in the lines and the brakes still don't feel right, you may need a new master cylinder. You should definitely consider installing it yourself — at an auto class. All it involves is disconnecting the old master cylinder (a bolt or two and the hoses leading to the brake lines), removing it without spilling brake fluid on anything painted, installing the new one, filling it with brake fluid, and bleeding it. If the job seems like too much of a hassle, have a professional do the work. You shouldn't have to pay for much labor, and if you choose a brake shop wisely, the whole deal shouldn't cost too much. Whatever you do, just be sure that, when the job is finished, they (or you) bleed the brakes and the master cylinder to get all the air out of the lines. .Chapter 18: Being a Buddy to Your Brakes and Bearings !?
